Mars in Sagittarius forms an exact trine to Chiron in Aries at 15°31’ on December 15, 2023 at 2:55 PM PST. As a Collective, we’ve been feeling this transit’s energy for several days. It is easy to misunderstand the tension this transit creates, especially with the current Mercury Retrograde, which began on December 13.
Chiron is referred to as both a minor planet and an asteroid; for brevity, I prefer to call it a planet. You can, too - the astronomers won’t mind. Discovered in late 1977, Chiron’s erratic orbit is part of the reason the astrologers of the day connected it to the myth of Chiron, King of the Centaurs, described by astrologer Melanie Reinhart in her seminal book Chiron and the Healing Journey:
The episode which earned Chiron the title of Wounded Healer is central to his story. In the most widely known version, Hercules was invited to dinner by the Centaurs; a row erupted, and Hercules began to fight them. The Centaurs fled in all directions, pursued by Hercules, and one of his arrows struck Chiron in the leg; it created an unhealable wound from which Chiron suffered for the rest of his long life.
Being an immortal, he could not die from it; neither could he cure it, in spite of all his skills. Ironically, his ability to help others was increased by his continual search for relief from his own unhealable wound.1
