Mercury went retrograde at 22°40’ Sagittarius on November 25, 2024 at 6:42 PM PDT. On November 30, we have a New Moon at 9°33’ Sagittarius at 10:21 PM PDT. I haven’t written about Mercury Rx in a good long while, mostly because of my own defeatist attitude regarding the pages and pages of AI-generated online results that saturate google. Google seems to be the place where people look, when they wonder ‘what does it mean when Mercury is retrograde.’
I’ve had to ask myself, what is one more newsletter on Mercury going retrograde going to do, exactly? How would it elevate our collective understanding of the energy at hand? Most people believe they’ve got the hang of what it means: their car breaks down; people are argumentative; don’t sign contracts. Redo, revise, reup. Sure. Those experiences all fit the Mercury Rx profile.
I thought I’d challenge myself on this idea that no one really cares about Mercury Rx - except to blame widespread, stupid communication glitches which (without fail) colour every retrograde passage of Mercurial nonsense that ever happened. I’m sure that Hermes had a time delivering his messages a trillion lifetimes ago, as well. All of the content in google is written based on what's fed into the machine; this is what we’re told. So if astrologers aren’t writing new work exploring Mercury retrograde, and google is full of boring, old, regurgitated content, how do we really get to the soul of Mercury, the planet associated with communication, imagination, sleight of hand creativity, ferrymen and ferrywomen and ferrypeople, as well as actual fairies and magical incantations in their many forms?
